Demetrius Lancaster is Chief Executive Officer of Joy Education Foundation, where he leads efforts to expand access to high-quality literacy support for students and families in underserved communities. Through innovative mobile and virtual reading clinics, he is developing an emerging community-embedded model for expanding access to personalized literacy support, combining technology-enabled tutoring, research-informed instruction, and local partnerships to address systemic reading inequities.

Demetrius brings more than a decade of experience designing and implementing education technology and literacy programs that expand access to personalized learning. A former reading teacher, school founder, and instructional leader, his work sits at the intersection of learning experience design, literacy innovation, and community-centered education systems. Over the course of his career, he has partnered with schools and districts across the country to help educators use data and technology to strengthen instruction and improve literacy outcomes.

Demetrius is an Echoing Green Fellow and Roddenberry Fellow. He holds a Master of Education from Columbia University and is pursuing a PhD in Literacy, Language, and Culture at University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
