Leah Clapman
Leah Clapman pioneers digital engagement and current events education for public media. As part of the team that built the first PBS News website, she led several initiatives including News Classroom for teachers and Making the Grade partnerships to cover education across multiple news outlets. She founded Student Reporting Labs in 2009 as an experiment to engage middle and high school students with the news and reimagine public media for tweens and teens. Under her leadership, SRL has grown from 6 pilot sites to over 11,000 educators with schools in every state and 90 countries. A Princeton graduate, she serves on the Education Writers Association journalism board, 826 National Board and Library of Congress TPS council. She divides her time between Washington, DC, with her history teacher husband and New York City, where her kids are in college. You'll often find her hiking in Rock Creek, at the dog park or the local pottery studio, where she makes lots and lots of mugs.
